How do I know my Windows 7 files are safely backed up?

Windows compresses and encrypts backup data, to save space and protect your
files. You can check to make sure files have been saved through the Backup
utility. Go to Start Control Panel System and Maintenance, and
click Backup and Restore. Click Restore my files then Restore all users
files; if asked enter your administrator password, click Browse for files
and you will be able to see your files. You won't be able to open them,
though, but the file size is shown, which is a good indication that they are
intact.
